Dr. Peets’ Teaching Tip of the Week
“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” — Nelson Mandela
We are blessed to live in a country where every child is afforded a free and appropriate public education. Not only do they receive a free education, but have the opportunity to engage in extracurricular activities to enhance their mind, body, and spirit, without financial cost to their families. Even though we live in the 21st century, not all children are afforded these opportunities. Being able to read, write, speak, and think for oneself is the greatest gift we as educators can give to our students.
The next time you plan a lesson, remember that you have the opportunity to engage change-makers. Your students are the next generation of leaders; make them the best leaders possible through the creation of engaging and thought-provoking lessons.
TCI Tip of the Week from Ange:
The “Triune Brain” consists of the Thinking Brain (Logical), the Emotional Brain (Reactive/feelings), and the Survival Brain (flight, fright, or freeze). Growth and learning can only occur with a Thinking Brain.
SEL/MTSS Tip #4 - Self-Awareness:
As we start the 14th day (third full week) of school I want to send out the reminder that it is ok to slow down a bit. A goal we have for our region as MTSS teams is to slow down - you can speed up by slowing down. A quick reminder when things feel overwhelming that it is ok to stop and think of not ALL of the things that need to be done, but just the few things for that day, or hour, or minute. One - step - at - a - time. Working together as a team (staff - staff; students and staff; students with students) we will get there! This takes practice - check out this resource!! When I feel like I need to speed up I actually stop and take a breath, and remind myself that I will have much better outcomes if I slow down and intentionally focus on the task at hand. Have a GREAT week!
