On this website, we will attempt to update and keep you informed of important information regarding the Sodus Health Offices. In addition, you will be able to retrieve Health and Athletic forms that appear at the bottom and side of this page and are linked to the specific health office pages listed in the left-hand navigation bar. Thank you and please don't hesitate to contact us with any questions you may have.

Nurses are assigned to all Sodus schools. Among other functions, their responsibilities include:

  • Managing medical emergencies

  • Caring for students with minor injuries or illnesses at school

  • Conducting hearing, vision, and scoliosis screenings

  • Administering medications

  • Planning interventions for children with special needs

  • Measuring and documenting State-mandated services.

Please remind your child to report to the Health Office if they are not feeling well or have been injured. The student must consult the school nurse before making a determination about going home.

If your child may need to use a medication during a sports season or on a Field Trip in the upcoming school year, please remind your doctor to write the order to read: MAY CARRY and SELF ADMINISTER.  This is especially important for all Asthma inhalers, and EPI PENS/BENADRYL  for allergic reactions. As always, the nurse can allow this if she determines your child to be self-directed.

It is important for the school to be able to communicate with parents by phone in the event of an emergency, or regarding an injury or illness. Therefore, it is important that parents keep their emergency contact information current at all times.

Effective September 1, 2016, ALL students entering grade 7, need to have received ONE dose of the Meningitis vaccine. Students entering Grade 12 will need a SECOND dose (booster) of meningitis vaccine, IF  they received their first dose before the age of 16. Students entering Grade 12 who have not received a meningitis vaccine at all, will be required to have only one dose before school starts in September.

Please call and schedule appointments with your child’s physician soon, as students will not be allowed to enter school without these required immunizations in the fall.

Confidentiality

The District adheres to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). Private health care providers must follow other laws called Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). In instances where the school needs to communicate with private health care providers, the parent will need to complete the required form(s) from their health care provider in order for school officials to be able to speak with them. Please be advised that confidential medical information will be shared with district personnel who need to know. This may include understanding the impact a medical condition may have on a child within the classroom setting and/or how to recognize and potentially manage significant medical concerns until medical help arrives. If you have any questions, please contact your school nurse.
